We had the opportunity to partner with Jefferson Elementary School in Carlsbad last year alongside ViaSat Inc. and Buzztime to create a Makerspace and project-based mentoring program for the 75 children in Jefferson’s third grade classrooms. The Jefferson Makerspace will be a workshop alive with imagination and curiosity where the next generation of innovators and creators will be inspired through engineering challenges and the design process.
A Makers Space provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering. ViaSat and Buzztime provided the financial support for Jefferson Elementary to purchase the material, and local individuals from Carlsbad volunteered to build the new furniture, and transform the room into the Makerspace it is today.
